Subject: Problem with the libraries

Hi folks, I was using Poser 12 for a while, but now I have a problem with the libraries... I have noticed that the new runtimes I add are not saved correctly and the worst thing is that I have not been able to edit the Poser 12 LibraryPrefs file manually as I used to do in poser 11. For some reason Poser 12 it does not load the libraries from the Library preferences file and this is very frustrating because I need to change the libraries very often.

Has anyone been able to fix it? Any help or advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

I haven't had this problem. I typically have a couple of dozen runtimes attached to Poser 12, and it remembers them. If I add some or remove some, it remembers it.

How do you add libraries? Are you using the add library icon? I never had them disappear in P12 either using the method that is standard. And may I ask why the need to edit the library prefs file?

I've had no problem adding to my library and I was able to edit my prefs too.

The reasons I edit the file manually are when I add several runtimes at once, I can do it faster or if I want to reorder the library. I like the runtimes alphabetical and they get out of order as I add more later. It was also a fast way to move the runtimes from one version of poser to the next, I just copy and paste the lines I need. I think I did that for the last two upgrades.

I think it's much more practical to edit manually the library prefs file, this way I can add libraries from older projects in just a few seconds.

Huh? I would think the UI is built specifically for that. I have about ten different runtimes and it stays added no matter how many times i update Poser 12. I never though editing program files is a good way, but i may be a minority.

I've had the problem long time ago, with an old Windows version (probably at the time of Win7, or WinXP?). I used to browse down to Poser's folder, precisely. And my modifications didn't seem to show up, until I remarked a weird thing: Windows, without warning, was using a new copy of my profile, and I was editing in the old copy.

I've been told that upon encountering hard disk problems, Windows may be able to create a working copy of someone's profile. I'm not saying that it can be your problem, but if your usual way of doing it doesn't work, then the next question is: "where is Poser's actual library preferences file?"

And this tool can be handy: "Everyting". It find any file on your system, and you can't type on your keyboard fast enough to have to wait on it: it's instantaneous
