Subject: Easy way to delete renders in bulk?

Hi folks, returning Poser user here, trying to wrap my head around Poser 12. I'm finding myself cracking out unfinished SuperFly test renders (using the lovely progressive mode) almost faster than I can delete them. So I was wondering if there's an easy way to remove a bunch of these from the Renders tab in one go.

Edit/General Preferences, on the Renders tab, will let you specify the maximum number to retain. So that will limit how many can accumulate.

Thanks! That'll help.

If you right-click in the recent renders you get a menu with an option: 'Show in Explorer'. This option opens the RenderCache folder. You can then bulk-delete as you like.

Previews of the .exr files may be difficult to obtain, but files are named via timestamp (example: '2021-02-14_23h48m25s.exr') so you can easily locate 'lumps' representing a project. Also aborted renders have smaller filesize.

However agree that multi-select would be easier.

Since Poser 12 can now use Python libraries, this might be interesting:

Poser 12 can use Python libraries? That changes everything.

Yes, it does. Not for me, though. Too late and too little for me to support Poser (i.e. upgrade to P12). Other parents have much nicer daughters ;). I start Poser more for nostalgic reasons. Like probably most former Poser users.

Just in case: you may also browse EXR files, using free applications, such as xnview (multi-platforms), irfanview, etc...

So THAT's where the RenderCache folder is for P12!! I don't, by default, use the Recent Renders window, so if you hadn't posted this, I probably would never have found the RenderCache folder.

For P11, it's in AppData > Roaming > Poser Pro > 11 > RenderCache, so I assumed that's where it would be located for P12 as well, but when I didn't see it in the Poser > 12 folder, I sat here scratching my head trying to figure out where they put it.

Hmmmm, I wonder if there's some place in the Poser.ini for P12 where I can put it where I'd want it. Hmmmm . . .

If I'm not wrong, there's a setting in Poser's parameters dialog box (ctrl-k)

What would I have selected when clicking Ctrl+K? Usually what I see in the Parameters panel are settings for whatever I have selected in the Hierarchy Editor.

OK, never mind. Ctrl+K opens up the General Preferences dialog, but there's nothing on the Render Tab that mentions where to store the RenderCache.

I was wrong, sorry about that... On my pc, it's in a subfolder named "Poser/RenderCache" in "my documents", but I don't remember having set this location....

Thanks FVerbaas for mentioning the render cache folder. Somehow I missed that comment and kept wondering why people were suddenly talking about .exr files. :-) I can see myself periodically exporting the renders I'd like to keep and cleaning out that folder.

No I think Poser 12 set it up in that folder, as that's where I see it now. With Poser 11, the RenderCache folder was in the AppData > Roaming > Poser Pro > 11 folder, so I assumed with Poser 12 it would be in the AppData > Roaming > Poser > 12 folder but it's not. Then again, I'm thinking it could be a Windows 10 thing, because my last computer, which had Poser 11, was Windows 7, so that may be why it's in the Documents folder now. I'd just like to change it because it would be easier for me to remember, as I'm so used to where it is for Poser 11.

I don't know if this helps anyone, but I tried double-clicking one of the .exr files in the render cache, and it opened nicely in Gimp, which I happen to have installed.

I think that it is not a Windows feature, as the AppData and "My Documents" are both specific-purpose Windows folders. I'd rather think that Bondware changed it by design, mimicking many other well-know programs in their default settings.

One thing that should be checked though is with Micro$oft's default setting for their One Drive: My Documents, My pictures, My video and the Desktop are all ending online, something I don't like, Poser's RenderCache folder included. One possibility is to eject One Drive from the system (which I did), and another is to move "My Documents" elsewhere.

I don't use One Drive, and only have to go to Documents when an app insists on saving anything there, though I usually move it elsewhere. I don't use My Pictures or My Video, and since I don't use One Drive, the fact they're ending online won't affect me.

You uninstalled One Drive? I may have to check that out.

OK, where do you uninstall One Drive from, because it's not listed in my Control Panel as being installed? The only One Drive folder I found had subfolders for Documents and Photos and such, but were empty. I can't find it under Program Files, Windows, or anywhere else.

Never mind, I just found it.
