Subject: Question about Gamma and Hair Transparencies

I am using out of touch's Amber hair. When I load one of the provided textures, the hair looks washed out. This is because I am using the recommended system Gamma (2.20). When I go to the Material room and look at the transparencies, the radio button "Use Gamma value from Render Settings" is selected. If I change the trans for ONE surface to "Custom Gamma Value 1.00" it seems like all the trans channels for all surfaces change.

Can someone confirm that this is actually what happens?

Might be that your Specular is set to a full 1.000000 or your Hilite is set too high. Set up your BUMP and set that 0.1, plug that into the Specular channel to control the amount of light and or the hilight node and play around there. That's always been my problem when getting a foot hold into how to work with materials in the Material Room. It's always those two nodes that need the adjustments!

this is normal. Typically you want every gray surface (trans maps, bumps etc) to be set at gamma 1. I think you are talking about Poser and yes it will automatically change every trans map to gamma 1. You can change that and just set it for one surface only but i think you have to unchek gamma value from render settings. But in order to render correctly it has to be set to gamma 1

Yes, Poser.

Thanks
