Subject: Almost full hard drive help...

(i dont know if this is the correct forum for this question, didnt know where else for general computer help)

Hello again my friends =) im asking this question "here" because im sure many of you have experienced the same problem, i know because of the content we download, and years worth of purchases, our hard drives get full pretty quick.

so my last system totally crashed on me, and i have this one which i love... i have studio, poser, reallusion stuff... 20 years worth of poser related content. my new system has two hard drives. i installed all my software to my c drive, and have all my downloads and content on my d drive. my c drive (where windows is installed) is where all my programs get installed, but its damn near full, just a few gigs left. my d drive, has plenty of space...

i dont have much on the c drive, i was somewhat hip to the fact that id be shoving most to the d drive, but still, with only a few gigs left that will cause problems down the line.

any of you have had this experience, and what are our options? i dont keep much on the c drive other than when im installing programs, but obviously thats not enuff =/

any ideas, advice, suggestions?!?

I have all the subsidiary runtimes on an external drive - and all Poser zips on a second.

Online Now!

Get a larger hard drive and clone the C drive to it. If you have room in your system use the original as a third drive or external storage with an adaptor. At this point, you are going to get bogged down trying to decide what programs to keep or reinstall onto the second drive which can present an entirely different problem. Assess how much more room you need and purchase another drive to accommodate.

Find out what's using your drive space: https://www.google.com/search?q=tree+size+free

Great free must have program and it's only like 10Mb lol

After you install a DAZ or Poser package you should move the ZIP file to an external drive, you only need to use it once.

yeah, i dont know why my c drive is so full. all my reallusion, poser and studio content and downloads are on my d drive, which has more than enough space to accommodate. as far as programs, there really isnt much to speak of... i asked here because im "assuming" we more than likely have the "same stuff" more or less... i did try seeing what is taking up space, mothig sticks out as being omg, thats too much but i guess those little bits and pieces add up. but i gotta do something 10 minutes ago, down to my last few gigs =(

going to try that google thing...

Do you perhaps have zbrush? If so, zbrush default quicksave is located on the c drive. I sometimes have over 500 gig of quicksaves lol. You can always delete them if you got the app.

good idea with the zbrush tip, that was about 2gigs...

i was mistaken, my reallusion stuff is on my c drive, about 45 gigs, but studio and poser are on my d drive, so no worries. still, looks like i will have to add another ssd drive?

if you guys could help me as to what kind to get, thatd be awesome. i used to be better with this tech stuff, but ive fallen out the loop. i poked around last nite, doesnt seem to be difficult. add a 3rd/ssd and copy my c drive to that, and set my windows to read from that instead, then format the original? is that correct?

i have an hp omen obelisk 875-0034, and this is my motherboard i think: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06124984 id had ordered a new drive from newegg last nite, if i knew what to get. help me out fam =)

This is what I would get, bud... but first you gotta check what's already installed in that NVMe slot.

Sorry, I think the drive slot might be on the other side where it stops against the mounting screw... duh! lol
