Subject: Missing older non-legacy included content (Poser 11)

moogal ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2021 at 1:46 PM · edited Sun, 31 March 2024 at 12:44 PM

Still on the fence about upgrading, but I thought organizing my runtime and backups would inspire me to put in some time with Poser. I've never stopped using Poser as a program, but a HD failure around 2013/14 wiped out the projects I was working on at that time. While I only lost a few months of spare-time invested, it killed my enthusiasm for whatever it was I had planned to do. Since then I have used Poser to preview models and for concepting, pretty much for everything but Posing. I kept the program current, and tried to grab any official figures or content that was offered. I also did some questionable things such as putting all of my general use "work textures" inside my runtime/textures folder, and converting my runtime's 100s of .jpgs into .pngs and sometimes power-of-two .pngs. I am not sure why using power-of-two textures was never standard practice with Poser content, but as it is elsewhere I have adopted that practice also. But I digress... In trying to load older scenes and figure attempts I keep running into missing files. I've bought next to no content over the years. My "freebie" figure installers were kept separate from the official content. So it seems to me that everything that I am missing was likely once distributed with Poser officially. My problem is that not only can I not find the installers for this content, I also don't know which installers I am looking for precisely. I have .exe files named PoserCasual and PoserClothing. They are in a SmithMicroDLM folder. I cannot get them to run as they will not accept my current Poser installation as valid. They ask to be pointed to its location then protest that it is not valid. The thread explaining how to install .zip content doesn't seem to cover installing zipped .exe files. The specific file I am missing is a geometry file for "DarkJeans". I'd like to know which figure this item is for (I can load the figure, can't identify who it is), and I'd like to know what other clothing this figure came with (I have the same character saved wearing a Blazer). Most importantly, I'd like to know where the installer for this content is currently located, as it is content previously distributed with the program. It does not seem to be in the legacy content installers, I cannot say for sure. (My last attempt to download those a few days ago was unsuccessful as the downloads regularly stopped before completing.) If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I do want to do something with Poser again, but I keep running into those same old snags.

You can re-download the included/legacy content from the PoserSoftware web site.

https://www.posersoftware.com/downloads/11

If it deletes the link (Renderosity does that sometimes), it's on the download page, at the bottom. You will need a valid serial number.

If it doesn't accept your serial, contact support.

Do you think the files I'm looking for are in here? There's no list of what is in each installer. My attempts to download these files earlier in the week were unsuccessful. I will try again. I'm looking for content installers from 2010-2015, I do not need anything from P4-P6... I do not know what all they are considering "legacy" content.

I'm sure they're in there somewhere, as well as some new stuff Bondware added, like La Femme and the Hivewire figures.

You're in the wrong forum, BTW. This is the Poser 12 forum. You might get more replies if you post this in the regular Poser forum. (Mods may move this there anyway.)

Someone once posted a list of the contents of each zip file. And I've probably downloaded them all myself. If you tell us what particular content you're looking for, we might be able to tell you which file(s) to download.

Looking at the legacy content files I have downloaded, it doesn't look like they contain a file called darkjeans.obj (or obz). I was also able to install clothing and casual figures from the old smith micro installer .exes and didn't see the file in there either.

As far as what is legacy, it's any poser figures before La Femme and L'homme.

Maybe if you posted a screenshot of the figure, someone would recognize it, and that would narrow it down?

James has clothing called Jeans Dark, but the OBJ is not named anything like that. Could you have renamed the OBJ?

Maybe it's something you downloaded from Content Paradise? They used to offer weekly freebies, as I recall.

I would also like to add that I have always installed all Poser's given content, and using the "Everything" tool, I can't find anything like DarkJeans.*

Didn't see a general Poser forum, that's why I put (Poser 11) in the subject.

Well, it turns out my problem was something else entirely... I finally found the thumbnail in the library for the item. It was called "Jeans Dark" and has a "conforming" label on it. The missing .obj is "Jeans Dark_164445978.obj". It was in a folder called WW Ryan 2.

IIRC, that would be an item I fitted to Ryan 2 with the Wardrobe Wizard? Wow, I haven't used that since right before my drive failed. Now I have to figure out which jeans I used and how I fitted them before.

Thanks for the assistance!

It looks like Dark Jeans are from James. They're included in the legacy content.

Indeed they are. Thank you, I finally found them!
