Subject: Poser Files

Can somebody please explain the difference between an obj file and a png file. I keep reading about obj files in the geometries folder but my characters in Poser seem to be in Libraries/ Character/ eg La Femme/ png and poser contents files and not obj files in the Geometries folder.. They open quite properly in Poser 11 but I am confused as to why I keep seeing reference to obj files.

The obj files are the actual geometry for each poser item. The poser content tells poser what to do with the geometry. It may include the rigging, materials, scale, location in the scene, where to find textures and geometry etc.

PNG files in the library are thumbnails to show you what you’re loading.

There are several different types of poser content files. I’m not at my computer to list them now. I’ll post them later if no one else does

Many thanks. If I understand you correctly, what you're saying is that the geometry file is included in the Poser Contents folder.

AH.... the OBJs are stored in the Geometry folder. When you load La femme, for example, She consults the Geometry folder for her object, the PMD to find out if she has any morphs loaded, and the texture folder to load her skin and eye textures.
Does that help?

Sorry to appear so dense, but I still don't understand why there is no object for La Femme in the Geometry folder. All that's in the Geometry folder for La Femme is a folder for RPublishing in respect of some clothes.

The path I'm finding it in is RuntimeGeometriesRPublishingLaFemmeLaFemme1.obj check also for a file called LaFemme1.obz. This is a compressed version of the obj. Nost other 3d apps can't read it, but it can be uncompressed using scripts>utilities>uncompress poser files.

If you aren't seeing either file, load La femme and run the script scripts>printinfo>listfiles. This will give you a list of all files in the scene and where they're located.

What you might see in the Geometries folder is a obz file. That is a compressed Obj file like a zipfile.

Thank you Red Phantom. When I looked at the list of files as you suggested it seems that not all installed. I have remedied the situation. Thank you for your help.
