Apocalypse Tip #43: If you ever find yourself in a zombie apocalypse and hopelessly lost. You can always look at the sun to find your position – or can you? No, you can’t. Just watching the sun rise will only give you an approximate easterly direction, because it’s only one point of reference. And that relies on your zombie apocalypse also not being a nuclear winter. You need two points to define your points of reference. So, one method is to find a meadow of cows. Cows always graze and rest facing either north or south. It’s an unsolved mystery as to why. Now, plop yourself down and camp with the cows for the night, they make a good alarm system to warn you of approaching zombies. In the morning, watch to see which side of the sky becomes light first. The sun rises in the east, so now orient yourself facing the same way as any of the cows. If the growing morning light is on the cow’s right, it’s facing north. If the growing light is on the cow’s left, it’s facing south. Now you have two points of reference and know your specific directional orientation on the compass. You can now head south with complete confidence, because that’s where everyone else went. (But first, eat the cow, but we’ll cover that in Tip #27). Good luck, and try not to get your brains eaten.
