Subject: Problems importing STL into blender?

Berlin77 ( ) posted Thu, 19 November 2020 at 12:52 AM · edited Tue, 05 March 2024 at 10:16 AM

I have been having trouble importing STLs from Revit 2021 into blender 2.83. I did it earlier in the year, and I was able to bring my STL into a different 3D modeling program. It just isn't showing up at all in blender. It is in the outlined, but not in the 3D view window. Has anybody experienced this before?

I haven't seen this issue before, but there could be several reasons why this is happening. Since the object is actually showing in the outliner but not in the 3d window, it's possible that the object has simply imported somewhere other than the world origin in 3d space and is actually out there somewhere in the 3d view window. Try these steps and see if they help:

Be sure the 3d cursor is at the world origin. Then be sure you have the STL selected in the outliner. Now right-click in the 3d view to bring up the Object Context Menu and choose Set Origin > Geometry To 3d Cursor. If the object is actually somewhere in 3d space, this should snap it to the world origin again. Just be sure the 3d cursor was at the world origin to begin with.

If that doesn't work, select the STL in the Outliner again, and press N to open the sidebar. Go to the Item tab and check the object dimensions, scale and location. If dimensions are zero, that would indicate the object geometry did not import for some reason.

Glad you figured it out. It could be helpful to others if you share the way you solved this issue. EDIT: Oh I see now it's probably another BOT. Man, they are getting very convincing. Must be some AI involved.
