Subject: The best way to shatter an object (Glass) in poser?

Hello there!

If I wish to shatter a glass object (lets say a flask, falling on the floor) - what will be your method of doing so from within Poser?

I know there's an old python script (Ockham if I recall) called shatterize, but I haven't tested it yet. any ideas?

Try Ockham's script. Personally, I haven't seen any other current script or content that might do that.

I'm hopeful that we may see this as a native and new feature in Poser 12, but I may be disappointed.

Yes, there was a $10 'Exploder' script from PhilC, which circa 2006 was updated to Poser Pro 2014 as a commercial item on the Renderosity Store. But this is no longer sold and seemingly did not make it to Poser 11.

The older free version of Exploder is on the Ockham's Bungalow page (the zip download is currently broken there, but is available via the WayBack Machine), though that is from 2004. It's also on Renderosity Freestuff listed as "Exploder (Python"), though again in the 2004 version. I'd assume you need a copy of Poser Pro 2010 or lower to run it.

I have run several of Ockham's scripts in Poser 11 without any problems. I'm not saying it will work but give it a try. It's free.

The best way I've found for shattering objects is to use Cell Fracture on the model of choice in Blender (there are tutorials so won't get into that part).
Once complreted, export all the pieces as a single object but set it to make objects as groups. -Import it to Poser, first make sure the materials/textures are good, then open the Group Editor. -Click Spawn Props. -From there you can hide or delete the original from the scene.

  • I would then use an empty Figure as the parent for all of the pieces. (you could enter Setup w a invisible tiny object, even 1 vert so its invisible, then exit without adding bones)
  • Setup a Bullet Physics assigning all of the fractures pieces to Rigid, a floor prop, etc. to choreographed (collision object) and see what happens when you run the sim with default settings, then tweak as needed.

If you really wanna go further you can add a choreographed object to animate (like a ball bursting through) to cause the pieces to react in certain ways. then hide it. I know I skipped a lot of details but this is basically what I've done.

[I'd show a gif but apparently they do not work on this forum.]
