Subject: Attribution Label/Rules

I'm once more wondering how are the usage rules/rights for Freestuff in relation of attribution of the artist. In my case for Rendered Images for Commercial Use. I'd wish for an additional label stating/binding if Attribution is required. As the label License: This is licensed for commercial or non-commercial use.

Right now you'd need to download every file first and if your lucky a readme is included giving more information else you'd need to contact the artist to rule out later law problems.

Example files: TruForm - Appartment Balcony free to use but Attribution? https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/sa-apartment-balcony/81809 Squarepeg3D - Foxy Sorceress label License: This is licensed for commercial or non-commercial use. But no info in the readme https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/foxy-sorceress-for-g2f---100-free/76148 Squarepeg3D - Modular Madness - Darkest Dungeon readme = free to use+no attribution reqired https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/modular-madness---darkest-dungeon/80254 Moonlight001 - G2/G3 Fae Dress readme = no restrictions https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/g2-g3-fae-dress/77320

Here is an good example of what I mean. The "Tyrannopendra" and "Tetradactylus" by "ancestorsrelic" contain a Pdf file which states CC-BY, so this needs attribution of the artist.

I have maybe to add that the law situation in Germany demands that unless something is stated I need to verify with the artist.

I contacted now 8 artist of which TruForm https://www.renderosity.com/?uid=641216 and
zombietaggerung https://www.renderosity.com/?uid=633054 responded very fast that I could but don't need to credit them. zoro_d also responded fast "...you can use my free stuff items in your commercial renders..." but the attribution was somehow left open.

Now I have to other responses which show how important a rule would be. guy91600 wrote all his stuff is CCO OneSix wants to be credited properly in this specific case

We did urge all freestuff contributors to put a readme in their freestuff item's zip files at one tiime, but some contributors thought it was easier to use the usage label on the page and leave the readme out of their zip file. I would highly recommend what you're doing Muffin64 if you or any member is still unsure or feel uneasy about the terms of use for a freestuff item.

I have encountered a few cases where the artists link in the readme to the Renderosity License (and copied it sometimes). https://www.renderosity.com/standard-license-cms-13161 I tend to interpret this then as if I'd have bought it and henceforth no attribution is required. Does anybody see this different?

As some artists don't seem to know the Copyright, Licensing stuff or never thought about I post this link to the CC licenses explanation. https://creativecommons.org/about/cclicenses/ Most important for the Use of Freebies would be if it is CC-BY = Credit must be given to the creator or CC-0 (usually people add here that it shall not be redistributed as it is ,like the original file)

Here is an example of an site giving free game assets under CC1.0: https://kenney.nl/Screenshot_2020-11-06 Kenney • Sci-Fi Sounds.png ![Screenshot_2020-11-06 Kenney

I understand that artists want to be credited but I might shortly say, why a least for me, it is difficult to give credit. For me working with the 3D Objects to Render Images is somehow like painting on a canvas, they become a part of something. The items are all stored somewhere in the big Theatres Storage room and I keep taking them in and out and switch, change her and there till there is a final result. Then I would now need to go through the image and make a checklist what I used and as there are many objects maybe the scissor on the table, the hairpin, wall-paint, beard, hat, stone, car, plant, person.... would all need to be credited somewhere, somehow. And as working with graphics, not in every project crediting is possible or looking good. But if I use/like something, that was given for free, a lot I tend to link back to the people somehow as mentioning them on Social Media, following them, linking on a/my website... Somehow/when I'll give them back something. [You might also know how chaotic the DAZ Library structure is.]
